Dwarf Car Museum - March 24-25, 2018
Our overnight trip to the Dwarf Car Museum in Maricopa and to “Arizona Model A” in Chandler on Saturday March 24 and Sunday March 25 was very
interesting. After meeting in the parking lot of the Cortaro Center shopping center, our group of 5 Model A’s, 1 Model T, a Lincoln Zephyr, a vintage
Mustang, 1 modern Ford truck and 2 modern cars drove up the east I-10 frontage road to the Picacho-Casa Grande Highway and through Casa Grande.
Our first stop was the Raceway Bar & Grill in Maricopa, where twenty-five club members had lunch and looked over the vast collection of license plates,
antique signs and other memorabilia on the walls of the restaurant..
After lunch we took the short drive the Dwarf Car Museum owned and operated by Ernie Adams. We spent the rest of the afternoon looking at the
incredible dwarf cars Ernie has built over the years, some of which literally started out as refrigerator shells! We also had the opportunity to listen to
several cars that he started while we were there. Unfortunately, the dwarf Model A he built refused to start. Sound familiar?
After our visit, some club members chose to drive back to Tucson, and 15 club members headed back to Casa Grande for the night.
On Sunday morning we drove from Casa Grande on the secondary highways to Sammie Guthrie’s “Arizona Model A” in Gilbert. We
were treated to his very eclectic collection of parts and many types of Model A and Model T cars and trucks waiting to be restored, as well as his collection of
new and old tractors. Some members also were able to feed his goats and donkeys. After several members took advantage of purchasing some parts
from Sammie during our the visit in the morning, we stopped for lunch and then drove back to Tucson generally without incident, except for the addition of radiator water
to a couple of cars along the way. It was a memorable 275-mile trip!
